Meet The Founders<\/p>\n\t

TrueNorth Recovery Consulting was founded by family members Lorna Dumaresq and Deb McMahon following their own firsthand experience navigating the devestating aftermath of the 2023 West Kelowna wildfire.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t

After losing multiple family structures in the fire, they quickly realized how overwhelming and complex the insurance recovery and rebuilding process can become for homeowners. Between policy interpretation, managing additional living expenses (ALE), temporary housing, replacement of contents, rebuilding estimates, contractor coordination negotiations, documentation requirements, and emotional exhaustion, they realized that many homeowners may also feel unprepared and unsupported during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.<\/p>\n\t

Together, Lorna and Deb bring more than 60 years of combined experience in business leadership, construction, operations, governance, counselling, negotiation and client advocacy.<\/p>\n

Lorna Dumaresq<\/p>\n\t

With more than 35 years of experience in business leadership, governance, counselling, real estate, operations and organizational development, i have spent my career helping people navigate complex chalenges with strategy, advocacy and compassion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Throughout my career, I have founded and led multiple organizations across both the private and not-for-profit sectors, serving in roles that included CEO, COO, Executive Director, counsellor, education and business strategist. My experience spans real estate, construction costing, behavioural counselling, project management, governance, operations and organizational leadership.<\/p>\n

In 2023, our family experienced a devastating total loss during the West Kelowna wildfire, where we lost seven structures. As I began navigating the insurance claim and rebuild process firsthand, I quickly realized the enormous amount of work, documentation, negotiations and financial analysis required to properly manager my family’s claim. The process was so overwhelming that I ultimately needed to step away from my full-time career to focus entirely on managing our own recovery process. Through that experience, I gained not only extensive practical knowledge of claims, rebuild funding, contents replacement, contractor negotiations and settlement reviews but also a deep understanding of the emotional toll that catastrophic loss places on individuals and families.<\/p>\n

During our own recovery journey, other wildfire survivors frequently sought out my advice and support as they struggled to navigate complex claims processes and often felt overwhelmed and unsupported. Witnessing how many families were facing these same challenges became the driving force behind the creation of TrueNorth Recovery Consulting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

My background in counselling and my own experience has given me a unique insight into the stress, grief, uncertainty, and emotional exhaustion that homeowners often face following a major loss.<\/p>\n

Deb McMahon<\/p>\n\t

With more than 45 years of experience in the BC construction industry, my career has been built on leadership, client relationships, and practical industry knowledge. Over the first 30 years of my career, I worked in sales, marketing, management, and operations, developing a strong understanding of both the business and customer-focused sides of the industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For the past 25 years, alongside my broader industry career, I have also co-owned and operated a family construction company with my husband. This experience provided firsthand knowledge in project coordination, budgeting, contractor relations, business development, and building trusted long-term client relationships.<\/p>\n

I am also deeply passionate about supporting others in the community and have dedicated time to supporting seniors through Baptist Housing as well as working with Kelowna Community Resources to mentor single mothers – helping individuals build confidence, stability, and new opportunities.<\/p>\n

Through the recovery journey, I recognized a significant need within the community for trusted guidance, support, and practical tools to help homeowners better understand and manage their insurance recovery process with greater clarity and confidence. That realization became the foundation for the creation of TrueNorth Recovery Consulting.<\/p>\n
